In complex clinical environments, much of learning occurs informally e.g., during patient care, handovers, and interprofessional collaboration. However, these learning opportunities often remain implicit and underutilized. This interactive workshop focuses on how learners and supervisors can more deliberately recognize, use, and create learning moments in everyday clinical practice. Drawing on established faculty development approaches, participants will work with practical frameworks to optimize workplace-based learning and develop strategies that can be applied across professions and training levels.
Planetary health refers to the interdependent health of humans and the environment, recognizing that the two are inseparable and that the health of one is intricately linked to the health of the other. The climate crisis is a health crisis, yet most healthcare trainees receive insufficient training to care for patients harmed by the effects of climate change, to create resilient healthcare systems, or to minimize the climate harms caused by the healthcare system. Similarly, many medical educators lack this training and are unprepared to teach learners to become resilient clinicians and leaders at the intersection of climate change and health.
