Course Description

PRDS 183: Endodontic Pipeline Program is a year-long elective designed to introduce predoctoral dental students to the specialty of Endodontics through clinical observation, hands-on simulation, case-based learning, and exposure to current endodontic research. The course provides students with opportunities to develop foundational endodontic knowledge and technical skills while gaining insight into postgraduate training and specialty practice.

Students participate in faculty-led seminars, literature discussions, and clinical case presentations, assist in the UCSF Postgraduate Endodontics Clinic, and complete a root canal treatment on extracted natural teeth under faculty guidance. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based decision-making, contemporary endodontic techniques, professionalism, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The program is intended for students with a strong interest in Endodontics who are committed to active participation throughout the academic year. Successful completion requires regular attendance, engagement in all scheduled activities, completion of required clinical and laboratory exercises, and fulfillment of course presentation requirements.
