The goal of the SOD Peer Tutoring Program is to help first- and second-year dental students, individually or in small-group settings, develop the skills and strategies they need to engage in didactic and pre-clinical courses independently and successfully. Our peer tutors are referred by faculty based on their demonstration in three areas: 1) course proficiency and academic achievement, 2) professionalism, and 3) communication skills.

The SOD Peer Tutors provide the following assistance:

  • Provides didactic and pre-clinical tutoring for first year PRDS and BMS courses.
  • Facilitates teaching study skills strategies on an individual basis and/or small group basis.
  • Leads review sessions for courses as needed.
  • Reinforces material that the course director has presented in class.
  • Guides students through short- and long-term planning.
