Researchers who have the greatest impact on healthcare, patient
lives, and the medical system often write both for their
scientific/professional colleagues and for the public, potential
funders, and health system leaders.
The first half of this session led by Dr. Louise Aronson will focus on preparing articles for "public" audiences, such as thought pieces, narratives, perspectives, and op-eds designed to have significant, real-world impact. Join us in dissecting sample types of public articles and determining the right article type, audience, and approach for your research and career goals.
The second half led by Dr. Margot Kushel and a representative from the UCSF Media/News Office will focus on
disseminating study results in the lay press. Learn how to work with
university media officers to prepare concise but engaging press
releases, summarize study findings in ways that are both scientifically
appropriate and easy for lay audiences to digest, and address subsequent
questions, interview requests, and comments from reporters and the
public.
