Hi Tina - I found the Barwise article is to be very interesting. I feel like it is so hard to tease out how much these differences are related to cultural differences vs. problems with communication in language discordance. It would be interesting to look at data adjusting for confounders that the paper mentions at but doesn't include - health literacy, race, ethnicity, religion, country of origin, country of citizenship, or immigration status.
