Hi Everyone,
Here are Katie Stone's thoughts regarding the biosketch questions that have come up:
- Is it better to organize your scientific contributions by "era" / education level or by scientific theme. Our advice was to do it by scientific theme, if they had enough content. Would you agree?
In most cases, this seems to work out best, particularly for career development applications.
- Another question was what to do if you have a lot of scholastic performance data, and it does not fit in 5 pages. The student said that the instructions are to be complete, so she wasn't sure if it was acceptable to only include relevant coursework.
I'm actually not sure! I guess I would prioritize all relevant and most recent coursework? But maybe should include a note or asterisk that it is only a partial list given insufficient space. Someone else may have a better answer to this though.
- Lastly, a question came up about education without degrees. One student attended community college(s) without obtaining a degree. I thought that those could be omitted from the top portion of her Biosketch and she only needed to list things with a degree. Is that right?
I would consider including if it adds to the overall expertise (for example, if there is training in a professional area not reflected elsewhere), but otherwise would likely leave it off.
