Hi DCR – Congratulations on completing your first week! Now on to Week 2. This week we’ll be focusing on the basics of “Subjects and Variables”, with homework focusing on fleshing out your plan for how you will define your study sample. You’ll also complete a simple outline for your whole protocol, which will give you a good roadmap for your full protocol. Assignment 2 is posted in the syllabus. Also, a recording of the 9am Full Class Discussion session will be posted to the syllabus by end of day in case you missed it.
COVID issues are heating up, as I’m sure you are aware. Those of you assigned to in-person small groups are getting benefits from face-to-face participation but also taking on a bit more risk, obviously. Please be safe and take all precautions to keep each other and our group leaders safe! Let your small group leader know if you have any doubts about coming in due to COVID issues and we’ll work through options together.
Finally, I will have online office hours tomorrow (Friday) at 10:10-11:00am – drop in if you have a question about any course materials or concepts, want to discuss the finer points of study design or your ideas for your project, get career advice, or anything else! I never know if there will be just a handful or lots of people showing up, and we’ll adjust the “tempo” of our conversation accordingly, but please feel free to drop in for any reason.
