Dear All,

I mentioned in class last week some good resources to learn more about field epidemiology, i.e. practical guide to conducting health research.  Two of my favorites are listed below.  Gregg's textbook also includes a few chapters on conducting health research in low-resource settings and is quite useful.

Robert Friis and Thomas Sellers.  Epidemiology for Public Health Practice.  Publisher: Jones & Bartlett Learning; 5th edition (2013).

Michael Gregg, ed.  Field Epidemiology.  Publisher: Oxford University Press; 3rd edition (2008).

Rothman, Greenland and Lash textbook is a tremendous resource but is also a very dense reading.  So, here's a list of suggested textbooks that might be helpful to make a smooth transition from the Szklo and Nieto to the Rothman, Greenland and Lash textbook. I put them in order that I think might be most useful to you.  All of them are in our library so you could check them out.  I also have them in my LH office so you are welcome to borrow to look at them as well.

Please let us know if you need more recommendations for good epi textbooks and of course please feel free to post your recommendations here as well.

Lydia
