Nice comments Matthew.  Structural determinants shape environment and can be conceptualized as a component of environment, so I don't think GxE influences are in opposition to the importance of structural context.  Indeed, you might think structural factors are the most important features of environment and genetic switches intended to optimize outcomes for the organism based on the specific environment in which  it finds itself should be most responsive the fairly stable, macro-level context measures rather than transient features of the environment.  So, in that sense, we might expect to see the strongest GxE when we operationalize environment as structural factors likely to shape proximal context throughout (or for much of) an organisms life.
