I whole heartedly agree that scientists ought to use their expertise to serve as advocates through research. I agree that scientists have a responsibility to address the social implications of research. Rigorous science, objective/neutral oversight, and the peer-review process each serve as mechanisms to maintain objectivity. Engaging in scholarship through strategic inquiry is an approach to develop academic influence that functions as advocacy.
