Dear Epidemiology 212 enrollees:
This is a reminder that your second
assignment for the Publishing & Presenting Clinical Research course is due
by noon on Tuesday, May 8. This is a draft ~3-paragraph introduction for
a manuscript based on a project you are pursuing or have recently completed. Once
again, please use the template posted on the course syllabus and upload your
assignment using the on-line link provided.
Please note that our next session on May 8 will feature two guest speakers. Vivek
Jain, Associate Professor of Medicine, will speak first about presenting
research data effectively in tables and figures. This session is designed to
help you complete your third assignment for this course as well as create
effective visual displays of research data for any future presentations or
papers.
In the second half of the session, Louise Aronson, Associate Professor of
Medicine and author of The History of the Present Illness and numerous
articles in the lay press, will lead a session about public medical writing.
Louise will explain why even early stage clinical researchers should seek
opportunities to write editorials and perspective pieces for both medical
journals and for the lay press and discuss strategies for writing about health
and research for a wider audience.
Note that Louise has kindly offered to review future drafts of editorials, perspective pieces, or other public writing pieces by those of you who are interested in pursuing this in the near future. So take advantage of this opportunity to introduce yourself to her at the end of the course session!
