Helping Special Care Patients With Their Oral Health Module
Interested in learning more about special care dentistry during your dental school career? Here's your chance in less than 30 minutes!
Jenny Giao, Ronnel Azizollahi, Dr. Le, and Dr. Essex are conducting a research study about assessing dental student's likelihood to treat patients in the special care population. As members of the UCSF community, we share the values of increasing access to dental care for underserved communities. The special care population is often neglected, resulting in referrals to hospital dentistry, years of delayed care, and unnecessary use of sedation. We invite you to participate in our study focused on special care dentistry.
This virtual module consists of an online pre-survey, watching a 20-minute video, and completing a post-survey (less than 30 minutes total). The 20-minute video will include didactic content that describes the heterogeneous population requiring special care dentistry. It defines subsets of special care patients including developmental, behavioral, sensory, and physical disabilities. The video also delves into behavioral techniques dental students can utilize to deliver clinically competent dental care to this population.
