How Do I Send a Message to Students?
How to Post to a Forum
1. Click the link of the Forum that you want to use.
2. Click on the Add a new discussion topic button.
3. Type in a Subject and content of the Message. These are both required and it makes sense to keep the subject brief (like in an email) and to word it so that other people know what your discussion topic is about.
4. If you are interested in adding an attachment to the post of any file type, you may do so, as well.
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Post to forum button. You will now see a message giving you 30 minutes* in which you can edit or delete your posting. After that time, the post will be emailed to everybody who subscribes to this forum. The posting will still appear automatically within the Forum activity.
*You can bypass the 30 minute email window by checking the box to “Mail now”.
How to Reply to a Forum Post
1. Click the link of the Forum that you want to use.
2. Click on one of the Discussion topics to see the original posting and all replies.
3. Scroll down to the item you want to reply to and then click on the Reply link.
4. Type your reply in the message area. You may also change the Subject line and it makes sense to do this when you about to start talking about something different than the original post.
5. If you are interested in adding an attachment to the post of any file type, you may do so, as well.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Post to forum button. You will now see a message giving you 30 minutes* in which you can edit or delete your posting. After that time, the post will be emailed to everybody who subscribes to this forum. The posting will still appear automatically within the Forum activity.

Email Subscriptions
Each time that you post within a CLE Forum, you have the opportunity to subscribe to that forum. After you have written your message content, you may choose from the Subscription drop down menu. If you choose ‘Send me email copies of posts to this forum’ you will be sent email copies of every subsequent post to the forum.
You can unsubscribe at a later stage by coming back to the Forum and clicking on the ‘Unsubscribe me from this forum’ link located in the Administration block on the left hand side of the page.
There are other subscription options which you may want to take a look at and you can find these in theEdit profile link under My profile settings in the Administration block.
Depending on how the Course Manager has set up the Forum, you may be forcibly subscribed to a Forum and not be able to edit this.
