Course Credit:               One to Five (1-5) quarter units

Course Description     
This course provides the opportunity for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students to develop leadership skill related to their advanced practice roles. Activities may include but not be limited to mentoring, teaching, decision making, consulting, and healthcare-planning experiences that integrate theory and evidence. Practice hours related to the DNP Project may be included. Maximum hours per quarter will be individualized and approved by the instructor.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of the practicum students will:

1.     Design and evaluate practice interventions founded on theory and science.

2.     Identify, implement and evaluate leadership strategies that support the education and practice goals of nursing, populations and practice settings served.

3.     Demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgment and systems-based thinking in the design of practice solutions.

4.     Guide, mentor and support nurses and other interprofessional colleagues in elevating practice and addressing complex healthcare needs.

5.     Apply conceptual and analytical skills to practice issues that integrate the needs of populations and staff while effectively supporting organizational goals.
