Introduction to Cost-Effectiveness Evaluations and Course Overview
In this introductory session, we'll explore the following:
Why perform a cost-effectiveness evaluation in clinical medicine, public health, or social policy?
What are examples of influential CEAs?
What is a good research question for a CEA? (Spoiler alert: there are similarities to and differences from what makes a good question in clinical research).
How do CEAs examine uncertainty in input parameters? For instance, how does one consider the cost-effectiveness of screening for hypertension in Sub-Saharan Africa when long-term rates of blood pressure control are unknown?
We'll also consider an overview of the course: the goals, organization, student projects, and grading.
