Module activity
Parts 1-3: Thinking about your research focus:
- What kind of mixed methods study might be useful to answering a research question relevant to your project of interest? Would you use a sequential or a convergent dieting? Why? Explain in one paragraph.
- Design a 3-4 item survey that you think would be helpful for the quantitative data collection of your study—even if you might also be thinking about using EHR data or an existing data set as the quantitative component of a mixed methods study. Are there existing questions you can pull from that are relevant to and validated in your setting?
- Design a 3-4 item semi-structured interview guide that could be used in focus groups or 1:1 interviews for your mixed methods study. Use open ended questions and avoid questions that can be answered with “yes/no.”
- How would you integrate the survey and interview questions? Explain in one paragraph.
Part 4:
- Consider your research/scholarly interests and if/how an existing database could/couldn't help answer a relevant question of interest. If you don’t think a relevant database exists, what kind of database would you want? What are the pros/cons of using big data to study your area of interest?
