What are we to assume about the appendicitis status of the 33 patients who were excluded in part B and part D?

Thanks!

Dear Jean,

You do not need to know the disease statusĀ  (D+ or D-) to estimate the effect of increasing or decreasing T+ or T- on sensitivity and specificity.

Hope that helps,

Kerstin

Thanks, Jean for asking and Kerstin for replying.  I think you have to assume their risk of appendicitis is >0 and < 1, but that seems very reasonable, since the reason why they were excluded is that they did not remember going over speed bumps, which would be unlikely to rule in or rule out appendicitis.

Thanks for clarifying! I indeed wanted to ensure they weren't all D+ or D-.
