For question 9 -- are we supposed to find a threshold in our model on the AUC curve that most closely matches the top upper left corner? Am I thinking about this correctly?

Hi Danny! Yes, this is one valid approach. However, in some cases you would want to maximize sensitivity and be OK with loosing some points with specificity, or vice versa. It depends on the outcome and the goal of the study.
