Converting SPSS file to Stata

Converting SPSS file to Stata

Hi,  I would really appreciate some help.  The data for my final project is housed in Qualtrics which can export all the pre-lableled variables and values only into SPSS rather than stata.  I normally use SPSS and that would be fine, but given that our final project will receive a warmer welcome in Stata, I am wondering how to convert the spsss data file .sav into a stata file .dta.  I already tried the "save as" option, but it is not working.  Clearly I can use (and have started to) a .csv file, but it does not incorporate the variable and value labels and I would hate to have to label each of the 300 survey questions. I wonder if there is some way to convert the spss file into stata.

Thanks a lot!

Hello Stefana,

In trying to find the answer to your questions, I found the following website:

http://statistics.ats.ucla.edu/stat/mult_pkg/faq/fromSPSS_toStata.htm

The website explains 2 other options for converting from SPSS into Stata using a “save translate” or “Stat/Transfer.”

I’m not at all familiar with SPSS, but hopefully, the website helps. Please let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks!
