Week 7 in DCR

Hi DCR – Last week in DCR!  Lecture this week is optional.  Lecture 7 is always a “wildcard” lecture in DCR where we invite an active researcher to come talk about a miscellaneous subject that might be of interest to students.  I’ve posted an in-class lecture I gave a couple of years ago in that slot on using electronic health record data for research; also posted another on doing randomized quality improvement trials (“Learning Health System Trials”).  Watch if you’re interested!

The reading and assignment are both about implementation and quality control, and about writing a funding proposal.  Both important and practical topics!  Do you need funding to actually do your study?  UCSF itself has an internal funding program called the Resource Allocation Program that offers funding for a variety of types of projects.  This can be an extremely useful way to get started.  You should be able to rework your 5-page protocol into a RAP application!  Check it out: https://rap.ucsf.edu/.

Small group will be focused on helping you with an “unsettled issue” with your 5-page protocol.  You’ll get the most out of this session if you have worked on your protocol enough to know what the issues are...and then you’ll well on your way towards turning in the Final Project (due a week from Monday).

I’ll be at Office Hours this morning as usual.
