Hi All,

Hope all are doing well.

OPTIONAL/Extra articles/ references:

As mentioned on last Thursday, I have posted links to a few additional articles to the "Wrap Up" session on 3/11/21, relating to the selection and immortal time bias issues, discussed in this course. One is a commentary from myself and colleagues addressing that while we understood the potential for prevalent user/selection bias in our study, we did not think the possibility was substantive. This led to a statement of correction in the original article (Emilsson et al).

The other is by Dr. Newman, Professor in DEB, who identified immortal time bias in a published paper, that led to a retraction and replacement of the original findings. For those interested, Drs. Newman and Mi-Ok Kim co-lead BIO215 (Spring course), which covers analytic methods to address these and other biases in studies.

These readings are posted for your interest only, and not needed for the Final Exam assignment.

Best wishes,

June
