Orange Box Plot Question

Orange Box Plot Question

I understand in this data survived is coded as 0 (for death) and 1 (for survival). But I am confused about the annotation of the box plots.

For variable Age (subgroup Survived), it appears that the top plot is 1 (survived) and the bottom plot is 0 (died), but then for log(fare) the order of the plots appears switched: the top plot is labeled as 0 (died) and the bottom plot is labeled as 1 (survived). I just want to make sure that I am reading this right? We should read it by the 0/1 labeling just before the means and not rely on the top plot being survived and the bottom plot being died?

Thanks.

Hi Melanie,

Great question. You are correct! We rely on the 0/1 labeling. You will notice that regardless of the group (survived or died), the box plot with the lowest mean comes first and is on top and the bottom box plot has a higher mean in comparison.

For example, for the variable, Age, survived (1) with a mean age of 28.3 is on top and died (0) has a mean age of 30.6 is at the bottom. log_fare is switched using the same logic.

I hope this helps!

Kindest regards,

Temi.

Yes, that helps a lot. Thank you!

Also, I'm trying to access the recorded Zoom session from class yesterday, and it says that the file has been removed. Is there another way to access it?

Thanks!
