Orange crashes with Lab 2

Orange crashes with Lab 2

Hi,

I'm continuing to experience the crashes from Lab 2 while working on the Merge Data step. I've used the smaller data sets that were uploaded (n=99 each), and tried reducing these further (n=49), but still run into the crash. Any tips for how to get through this? Thanks!

Hi Akshay,

I am sorry you are continuing to experience trouble with merging. This was not an issue last year and something must have changed during their software update. Please make sure you understand the fundamentals of merging and concatenating and submit your assignment as is, we will not apply a late penalty. In future weeks I am going to have TAs test the labs on their computers so we can have a consensus of what works and what doesn't work across a wider set of machines.

Best,
Aaron

Thanks! I had the same issue- Basically every time I tried to merge (with an n=32)or analyze any of data (using feature statistics for looking at the data or trying to reclassify data ect, essentially anything that means Orange has to do anything with the dataset), Orange quits. My computer is brand new so I am doubtful it is something specific to my computer. I will try to make in person tomorrow but just wondering if it has been this difficult for others.

Hello,

I suspect the issue is due to a bug in the merge widget that was introduced in the new Orange update. We will avoid using this moving forward but please let me know if you encounter any other issues while performing other operations.

Best,
Aaron

I ended up trying to do the rest of the steps as were possible without the merge feature. Orange continued to crash every time I tried to use a bunch of features, usually features to classify data or use feature statistics but essentially when I tried to look at the actual data or alter any components. Is there any way to address this?
