Midterm Clarifications

Hi All, As noted in large group/lab today, below are a few clarifications for the midterm:

Part 2, question e:
Purpose: clean a string variable using the numeric assignments indicated.
Not being asked to label missing (.); only being asked to assign character values that are associated with missing data to missing.

Part 2, question i:
the question should be interpreted as follows: “Generate a variable that indicates whether each participant ever seroconverted was HIV+…”
i.e., include patients who were HIV+ at baseline as “ever HIV+”.  We should not have used the term "seroconverted".

Part 2, question i [RAE users only]:
for those of you using Stata on the RAE, IT has changed something to prevent Stata from accessing websites within RAE, which prevents you from downloading the user generated xfill command. For grading, you will need to write the code that answers the question, even though you won't be able to run it.  You will need to comment out those lines of code (add a "*" in the beginning of the line) so that Stata doesn't throw an error and prevent the rest of the do-file from running.

Thanks,
Crystal

Re Part 2, question i for RAE users:
I just received confirmation from IT/RAE Support that the website needed to download the xfill program is now accessible/allowed through the RAE. Thus, you should be able to download the program using the xfill do file and execute your code normally for the midterm. If there continues to be any issues, please let me know. Huge THANK YOU to Amy for all her legwork on this!

Just a quick note that the points associated with each question on the midterm do not necessary reflect the amount of code required to answer the question. Some questions are a bit tricky so may be worth multiple points, even if it is possible to do in one line of code. However, if the question asks a for a specific response (e.g., how many duplicate records are there?), do make sure to also answer the question in the comments of your do-file so you get full credit.

Some students have been asking, so I wanted to clarify for all.
