My name is Dr. Mohsen Malekinejad and I am your course instructor, and Dr. Mazie Tsang will be your course assistant.

This is a reminder that our course Systematic Reviews (EPI 214) begins with a lecture on Thursday, March 31, 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM via Zoom (https://ucsf.zoom.us/j/92363671182?pwd=K0dJbE1IQ0FSb0ZvejNjN2w0Q2tBQT09).

All materials and instructions for the course will be available on the course page:  https://courses.ucsf.edu/course/view.php?id=9265

We look forward to working with each of you this quarter, and just want to give you a few heads-up before we meet this coming Thursday.

Please make yourself familiar with the class syllabus before this coming Thursday. I will touch on key issues in the beginning of the class ‘quickly’, but given that it’s a fairly comprehensive document and our time is short, I’ll assume that you have read it and will ask questions if something is not clear.

We will continue improving the class website and may tweak the course syllabus if needed. In particular, we may upload new resources as the course goes on. We will update you in case of major changes.

We may slightly update slides the day before each class but they are there for you to review before the class. The hidden slides are still useful, and we just hided them because of time limitation.

For each class/Module, you will find several ‘recommended’ readings – in some cases, too many of them. Please don’t let that intimidate you. I highly recommend that you try and read as much as you can (ideally before the class). That will certainly enhances your learning experience. Even if you can’t keep up with all the readings during the course, that is ok. Combination of class slides and a few of the key resources will provide you with sufficient knowledge and tools to complete your assignments. You can always refer back to them as your self-learning resources, especially if you decide to conduct a systematic review.

Although your attendance is not an absolute requirement, your participation is highly encouraged, and in fact it will be rewarded (See syllabus for details). Historically, students who have attended my classes, had higher chance of receiving better grades. Please do your best not to miss classes unless it’s due to an emergency or sickness.

Finally, this course will be offered via Zoom this year. Please consider finding a location with minimal background noise and using your camera during the classes. This makes the learning environment more fun and interactive for all of us.

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!
