Assignment 8 question 6

Assignment 8 question 6

Part b and c of question 6 refer to the correlation between sex (independent) and hemoglobin A1c (dependent). Unless I'm missing something fundamental, sex is a boolean variable, so I’m not sure how we could apply correlation between it and hemoglobin level. Maybe, the question should refer to age instead, which is referenced in part d?

Correction, how can we apply simple regression between sex and hemoglobin level?

I know it seems like it could not possibly work but I ran the regression just to see and the mean HbA1C (alpha=0=female) for female is the mean HbA1C when you stratify mean HbA1C by gender. Same for male. It does not seem like the test should work for a binomial variable or that it is the appropriate test to use but the means calculated from it were correct.

I was that too but the questions regarding the calculation of mean HbA1C (part c) for male versus female can be calculated from the output of this regression. I think the part d was supposed to be sex so you read off the p value from the output but I'd really like to know which is the mistake because both questions seem to ask for different things.

Hi, we will be discussing these things tomorrow in class.  This assignment spans 2 lectures, that is why it is not due until 11/26.

You are correct that there is a typo on part d.  Please replace the word "age" with "sex".
