The advantage of using LaTeX is that you can focus on the content and let the program take care of formatting. 

However, I agree that when you are learning (myself included!) it takes a lot of time to learn LaTeX syntax.

I recently learned that OverLeaf has a rich text viewing option (check out the first video), so you don't have to enter content using the source code (which is a little overwhelming!)
