Slight error in overall score calculation now fixed

Dear Students,

Thanks to Darpun Sachdev for pointing out a small error in my point calculations for the overall grade!  The “points possible” for several of the assignments in Moodle (the Collaborative Learning Environment) were off.  As a shortcut, I just took the highest score for those assignments and made that the number of possible points, figuring I might be erring on the side of giving people a slightly higher percentage than they earned (if the top score was < 100%).  What I forgot was that some HW assignments had extra credit, so in fact the top score was slightly above 100%.  When I made those corrections, some people’s overall point total went up by about a point.

I then went through all exams that had moved up to the borderline, to see if I could award another point or two on the exam.  The result is that 2 people got higher grades than were previously posted.  I am asking Clair to change those 2 grades and I will notify those people separately, so you don’t need to bother to check if you don’t hear from me.

For the rest of you, the number in the upper left corner of your exam for your overall score may be a point or so low; you can write to me or Clair if you want the actual number, but your grade stayed the same.

Best wishes for the holidays!  I hope you take some vacation!

 Tom

Dear Dr. Newman,

Are the final exam grades and overall course grades posted online somewhere?  I'm sure I'm just missing it on the website somehow.

Thanks very much,

James Andrews
