Hi, has anyone figured out the relationship with the quadratic formula and odds ratio?

I have the quadratic formula solved for x, i.e. x= -b +/-...  However, I can't figure out how to use the OR here.

I found this:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/store/10.1002/0471272612.app4/asset/app4.pdf?v=1&t=hklsqtup&s=6fab8a279482a1ef9e364a1b7256ffe8ef601d2c

But I have no clue what the various variables mean in these formulas...

What I tried doing instead is solving for 'a' in the odds ratio, which does give me a complex equation with lots of a2s, etc., but I don't know how to solve it further.

Anybody else have any other leads?

Thanks,

Rena

Hope I didn't throw you off too much with my hint about the quadratic formula.  Don't start there, start with what you KNOW.  You have 4 unknowns and can make 4 equations, then put them all together (substituting variables) so you have only 1 unknown and 1 equation...then you'll get to the quadratic formula...good luck!
