Dear students,
Congratulations on coming to the end of Publishing & Presenting Clinical Research! For those of you who weren't able to make it in person to today's panel discussion of UCSF professors who are also editors in chief or senior editors at major peer-reviewed journals, I encourage you to watch the video recording while it's still available. It was a pleasure to get such open (although sometimes conflicting) advice from editors on prepping manuscripts for submission, dealing with reviewer critiques, and turning around rejected papers for resubmission.
And considering the high initial rejection rate of many of these journals, those of you who have made it through to publication should be congratulating yourself on getting through what seems to be an increasingly competitive process. We can all give more thought to how to get our papers past that initial first cut that appears to result in rejection for anywhere from 60% to over 90% of papers.
Most of you have gotten feedback on your last course assignment, and the few of you who are still waiting will receive comments before the end of the week. I just want to say that I've found it extremely interesting and stimulating to read about your research over the two months. I wish you the best in getting your research the recognition it deserves!
Best wishes,
Alison Huang
