Tobacco
control policies serve as a model for other health policies, particularly those
addressing risk factors for non-communicable diseases. This course will focus
on developing students’ understanding of the key issues and evolution of
tobacco control policies in the United States and globally, and their impact on
public health and healthcare. Lectures and readings will prepare students to
engage in weekly discussions and prepare case studies of policies addressing
tobacco prevention, use, and addiction. The course will help students draw
lessons from tobacco control policy development and implementation that are
applicable to other health policy arenas.
