Course Description:

This course is designed to provide the student with a scientific basis for understanding the normal patterns and domains of development in the infant, child, and adolescent from birth through young adulthood. Building on knowledge of normative development, the course will cover interpersonal, health, and societal impacts on the developing child and adolescent and address coping mechanisms.

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

1.     Apply knowledge of developmental phases and concepts in clinical practice.

2.     Discuss factors that influence patterns of growth and development.

3.     Demonstrate increased knowledge and skill in the management of behavioral issues commonly occurring during infancy and childhood based on developmental theories and current research.
