To all students in Epi 212, Publishing & Presenting Clinical Research:
Just a reminder that we have a very special, interactive course session coming up this Tuesday, May 21, in which five UCSF faculty who are also editors-in-chief or deputy editors of major peer-reviewed journals will join us to discuss the manuscript submission and review process.
This Journal Editor Roundtable session will take place at a different time than usual (1:15 pm to 2:45 pm), but will be in our usual room of Mission Hall 1400.
This is a great session to attend in person even if you usually capture lectures by video. Not only will these editors speak in response to pre-prepared questions about interesting or controversial aspects of the manuscript peer review process, but they will also take additional questions from those of you in the audience.
Most of these editors are also distinguished researchers and academic leaders in their own right, and in the past some students have taken the opportunity to introduce themselves briefly at the end of the session.
Your third course assignment is also due this coming Tuesday at the standard noon time. For this assignment, you will create a table and a figure that present the same data in two different ways, and also create text to accompany your table or figure that describes any important findings or trends in the data without reproducing the data in detail.
Carrie Gibson and I are also working on providing comments to each of you about the second assignment you submitted earlier this month, involving a draft introduction section for a research manuscript.
Thanks and best wishes,
Alison Huang
