Hi all, my name is Aileen (pronounced eye-lean; she/her/hers). I'm an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and based at ZSFG. My research is focused on the intersection of social determinants of health and derm. Through various research projects, I have benefited from experiential training from biostats collaborators, and I'm really looking forward to some formal training now. I'm going to be working with a large dataset (AHRQ Healthcare Cost & Utilization Project's State Databases) to look at homelessness as a risk factor for hospitalizations and ED visits for dermatologic diagnoses. Looking forward to learning with you and from you!
Hi Aileen! What interesting research! Looking forward to learning more about it.
Hi Kate! Nice to e-meet you. Your research sounds interesting too--it's incredible how much there is to learn about what factors modify gene expression, so complex.
Hi Aileen,
I had the opportunity to visit Philly for the first time this summer and there is so much history! I, too, am "transplant" (albeit from the Midwest) to SF. I've been surprised that literally everywhere you go seems to involve uphill travel both ways, haha! What have you found particularly surprising or enjoyable about your transition to life in the Bay?
Glad to meet you,
Ashley

Hi Ashley! Nice to e-meet you. I just read that you moved here from Minnesota with your family! How has the transition been? The hills definitely take some getting used to. Our mornings start with pushing our two-year old up a hill to daycare... I will say that I was not prepared for the SF microclimates, but now I know to have a sweater or jacket in my bag at all times if I'm moving about the city. I love being so close to nature here, so many opportunities to be outdoors! -Aileen
Hi, again,
Yes! We have a 2- and 4-year-old and pushing that double stroller up the hills is giving me all kinds of new muscles. The microclimates are also a surprise to us. We've added sweatshirts and blankets to the car for the same reason. We do love it here thus far as well. It's a special place to be, even during the pandemic.
