Hello lovely students -

The group pregnancy care model is difficult to incorporate for a beginning practitioner, so you may make a few more mistakes trying to keep it all together in a timely fashion. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

This information supplements but does not replace the information about Centering in Appendix E of the syllabus.  Please read that section in the syllabus now.

Please see the "Centering Session Ideas and Content" on the course CLE page

Here are some other things that you’ll want to read before starting your centering group. Please refer back to them near the time that your group starts.

  • You’ll want to review your readings from the Centering training before starting your group (the Facilitation Manual and articles)
  • Once you obtain the the flowsheet of session topics for your group, look it over and identify content for which you are interested in facilitating the discussion (this may be at least a few sessions into the group). Review that with your preceptor. As you will see, in some cohorts you don't get to all of the topics.
  • Review the suggested activities for centering sessions so you have an awareness of them.

Remember...... you'll have support from your preceptor. The expectations begin low.  The centering model is difficult to incorporate for a beginning practitioner so you may make a few more mistakes trying to keep it all together in a timely fashion. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

You are responsible for setting your clinical goals at each group meeting. Your goals may be clinical (data collection, management, etc.), about what you would like to facilitate, or around how you would like to facilitate.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cynthia
