Clarification about extra credit

Dear all,

Thank you all for your emails. It has been wonderful to engage with you! Several students have asked questions about the extra credit policy, so we thought it would be helpful to clarify.

In the syllabus, this is the policy about extra credit:
"Extra credit: Class participation is highly encouraged. You will earn extra credit for your participation as follow: 5% (no absentee) and 4% (only 1 absentee). You must be present no later than 15 minutes after start of the class and be present for the entire class in order to obtain extra credit." This means that after missing a second class session, the extra credit will not be awarded. As a reminder, please type your name and arrival time in the chat so that we can keep track of your attendance.
To clarify, this policy is meant to reward students who routinely attend class in real time, rather than coming to one or two classes sporadically. This means that no one will receive a worse grade for missing classes. We completely understand that there are circumstances that might make it difficult for people to attend class in real time, such as being in a different time zone or having clinic during this time. For this reason, this is extra credit.

Thank you so much,
Dr. Malekinejad and Mazie
