  3. Target Behavior: HIV vaccine research education and enrollment in HIV vaccine research
  4. PRECEDE Category: Predisposing, Enabling, Reinforcing

B. For a multi-tool intervention strategy, use the PER worksheet attached to describe how you will address each of the PRECEDE framework components (Predisposing, Enabling and Reinforcing). You may download this PER worksheet and/or copy/paste.

(I couldn't download the worksheet for some reason)

Predisposing:

Know: Address what is HIV Vaccine Research;  What has been done in HIV vaccine research

Believe: Why we need people to participate in HIV vaccine research; Benefits and Risks

 Enabling:

Be Able To Do: How you can participate, Number to call to find the closest research center

Reinforcing:

Quotes from past participants; local organizations that participate in HIV vaccine research

I think for negative reinforcement it's great to show some data about the studies that have been done and what the study populations are so that people understand that their participation will help people like them. If you can also put it in a context that matters to them, their communities, their friends/family members, etc - that could help.

Hi Jessica, Because you mentioned earlier that there is a lot of mistrust about participating in vaccine trials among the population you are targeting, I suggest that you focus more on the perceived susceptibility, threat and barriers to participating (predisposing factors). Risk perception will be important, as will their expectations about the outcomes of participating in a trial. This is the precontemplation stage, and so you want to keep the movement forward.

Another predisposing/know topic: informed consent and voluntary participation?

As Lindsay stated, hearing others' stories of successful participation in vaccine trials (or resolution of unsuccessful participation) would be a great way to reinforce the  reasons to join a study. Maybe under reinforcing/"reminded" you could include a phone call f/u to answer questions about the videos, or an email survey about the video and to gauge their interest in future studies?
